The Vandalia Vandals scored 8 runs in the top of the seventh inning to secure a 10-8 win over the Shelbyville Rams on Thursday afternoon. After two and a half scoreless innings of play, Shelbyville used a big 8-run third inning to take a commanding 8-0 lead. That score would hold until the top of the sixth, when the Vandals got on the board: Trenton Smith reached on an error to score Kohnor Depew and Ayden Carroll, cutting the deficit to 8-2. Vandalia would have the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh when Jack Lewis smoked a double to cut the deficit to 8-5. Andrew Casey would then single to score Lewis, making it an 8-6 ballgame, and three batters later, Drew Jones would single to score Lewis and Casey, tying the game at 8. A pair of wild pitches would give the Vandals a 9-8 lead, before Adam Buscher capped off the scoring with an RBI single to give Vandalia a 10-8 lead. Depew would throw a scoreless bottom of the seventh to secure the victory for the Vandals, improving them to 9-7 on the season. Vandalia will be at home Today for an SCC matchup with Hillsboro.
