SEB's Late Offensive Burst Leads to Win Over Ramsey in EIC Softball Action


St. Elmo-Brownstown scored seven runs in the final two innings to take their first lead of the game and then go on to a 10-3 win over Ramsey in Egyptian Illini Conference softball action on Wednesday at Ramsey. The Lady Eagles hit the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout by Macy Claycomb for a 1-0 lead. An inning and a half later, Ramsey tied the game up at 1-1 on an RBI single by Mia Waggoner who then scored on an SEB after a single by Violet Williams as the Lady Rams took a 2-1 lead. Ramsey added on to their lead two batters later on an RBI groundout by Kelli Cook to go up 3-1. The Lady Eagles were able to cut that 2-run Ramsey lead down to just a run when M. Claycomb picked up her second RBI of the game on a single to second base that made it a 3-2 ballgame. After holding Ramsey scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, SEB tied the game up at 3-3 when Macey Sapp scored on a passed ball. The next inning would prove to be their biggest though as SEB put up four runs in the top of the sixth inning with two outs. Alivia Claycomb led the inning off with a single before SEB got their first two outs of the inning pushing things around to the top of their order. Kadence Speagle singled to third base and both she and Claycomb advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. Dayana Haslett walked to load the bases and Macey Sapp singled to shortstop to score A. Claycomb and then both Speagle and Haslett scored on an error on the play as SEB retook the lead 6-3. Izzy Orr then singled to centerfield to score Sapp but was caught trying to advance to second base to end the inning as SEB led 7-3. Ramsey was unable to generate any offense in the bottom of the sixth inning, going down on a pair of groundouts and a strikeout to being SEB back around to bat in the top of the seventh. Brooklyn Landrus began things with a leadoff single and Auni Wollin followed with a single as well. Both runners moved into scoring position on a groundout by M. Claycomb and then a walk drawn by Speagle brought in a run and a single from D. Haslett scored two runs to push the Lady Eagles lead to 10-3 before Ramsey ended any further scoring threat. The Lady Rams put their first two batters on in the bottom of the seventh inning with a leadoff single by Grace Eller and a walk drawn by Summer Sampson. A strikeout and a pop out put Ramsey down to their last out before Mia Waggoner walked to load the bases but a pop out t the pitcher ended the threat and sealed the win for SEB, 10-3. The Lady Eagles are now 6-7 on the season and will have a few days off before playing St. Anthony at home on Monday. Ramsey drops to 2-8 on the season and will next play Tuesday at Okaw Valley.
