The Altamont Indians scored two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a late lead, and did not look back, coming away with a 5-2 win over the Cumberland Pirates on Wednesday. The Indians would waste no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning when Carson Milleville reached on a one-out single, and would come home to score on a double from Brayden Elam to give Altamont a 1-0 lead. The Pirates would take the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run homer, making the score 2-1, but the Indians would battle back in the top of the third when Parker Bell drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 2. That score would hold until the top of the fifth inning when Zaine Miller and Elam reached via a walk and a hit- by- pitch. Three batters later, Blake Berg reached on an error, allowing Miller and Elam to score, giving the Indians a 4-2 lead. Altamont would get an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning on an RBI single from Miller, making the score 5-2, and Kaiden Wolff and Reed Stuemke would combine for a scoreless sixth and seventh innings to secure the Indians’ 5-2 victory. The win improves Altamont to 9-4 on the season, and pushes their winning streak to six in a row. Altamont will be on the road on Friday to take on Roxana.
