Vandalia softball got production from all parts of its lineup while Mulberry Grove was held to just three hits from the top of its order in a 16-1 win for the Lady Vandals over the Lady Aces on Monday. Vandalia got an RBI single from Elaina Hagy, an RBI popout from Briley Sefton, an RBI double from Liah Hoyle and an RBI single from Addey Cearlock to take an 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Mulberry Grove was unable to do anything in the bottom half of the inning as the side was retired. Vandalia went back to work in the second inning pushing three more runs across the plate on RBI singles from Hagy and Hoyle and an error after the Hoyle single that allowed another run to come in as Vandalia went up 7-0. After holding Mulberry Grove scoreless again in the bottom of the second, the Lady Vandals went on a one out rally in the top of third using an RBI single from Arian Dunaway and RBI double from Bella Walk and Aces error to score three more runs for a 10-0 lead. After a hit by pitch had runners at the corners for Vandalia, an RBI single from Ollie Whitehead and an RBI double by Hoyle had three more runs cross the plate for a 13-0 Vandalia lead before and RBI groundout by K Yarbrough put the Lady Vandals lead at 14-0 to end the third inning after the Lady Aces were again unable to put a baserunner on in the bottom half of the inning. Walk and B. Sefton each hit RBI singles to bring a run in apiece and extend the Vandalia lead to 16-0. Mulberry Grove was able to finally break through in the bottom of the fourth inning as Lyla Mollett led the inning off with a single and Sophia Smith followed with a single of her own. A double by Allyse Blankenship scored Mollett from second as the Lady Aces cut it down to a 16-1 game. That would be it for the game’s scoring as Mulberry Grove had two strikeouts and then an offensive interference call ended their scoring threat and the ballgame as Vandalia took the 16-1 win. The Lady Vandals are 2-9 on the season and will be on the road today at Greenville. Mulberry Grove drops to 0-11 and will be back in action on Wednesday at Father McGivney.
