Altamont Gets Early Lead and Holds It to Beat Ramsey-Mulberry Grove in Regional Quarterfinals

Altamont opened up the game on a quick run and would hold that lead the remainder of the way as Ramsey-Mulberry Grove couldn’t catch up and the Lady Indians beat the Lady Rams 39-25 in the quarterfinals of the North Clay 1A Regional on Saturday. The Lady Indians went on a 12-4 run to open the game behind six points from Ella Nelson and four from Avery Aldrich but a trio of Ramsey baskets from Anna Benhoff and Kelli Cook helped close the Altamont lead to 14-10 at the end of the quarter. The two teams combined for just seven points in the second quarter as the Lady Indians outscored the Lady Rams, 5-2, to edge their lead out to 19-12 at halftime. Altamont again took a scoring advantage in the third quarter as Alyssa Ruholl and Aldrich teamed up for eight points and the Lady Indians held Ramsey to five points and Altamont’s lead pushed out to 10 points, 27-17, to start the fourth quarter. A pair of three-pointers from Nelson and Quincy Niermann and five points from Sophia Long for the Lady Indians in the fourth quarter against eight points from the Lady Rams, four of those from Cook, sealed the game and the 39-25 win for Altamont.
