BSE's Haslett Etches Name in Record Books, Still Has A Lot of History to Write

Brownstown-St. Elmo girls basketball guard Dayana Haslett continues to tick off career milestones, but now stands alone at the top of the Lady Bombers history books as the new all-time leading scorer in program history. A year and three weeks ago, Haslett surpassed the 1,000 career point mark as a sophomore to hit her first big high school scoring milestone before surpassing the 1,500 career points mark just six weeks ago. Now just in her junior season, Haslett has hit her biggest scoring accomplishment yet. With 4:46 remaining in the second quarter of the Lady Bombers conference matchup at South Central on Tuesday, Haslett drained a three-pointer from just to the right of the top of the key giving her 1,839 career points. That put her past the previous scoring leader and 2020 grad Claire (Wilhour) Warchol. The two guards are very similar in their playing styles, using their speed to evade and penetrate defenses in transition and with the dribble drive while easily knocking down jumpers from beyond the arc. But it is Haslett now who stands alone at the top of all-time scoring list and she says it is exciting seeing the hard work she has put in pay off with another benchmark.

With passing another milestone, it means another goal is on the horizon. But for Haslett, while the individual goal is right there in front of her, she is also looking at the bigger picture with what her and her teammates want to accomplish as the postseason is upon them in the next couple weeks.

Haslett and the BSE Lady Bombers are 25-2 on the season and currently ranked as #4 in Class 1A with three regular season games left to play before attempting to make a deep postseason run. And, for Haslett each game means adding on to her legacy as a BSE Lady Bomber building from a Jr. High fourth place state tournament finish to a 1,000 point scorer to now being the all-time scorer who will continue to raise the bar each time on the court as she rewrites history and joins her teammates in trying to take the BSE girls basketball program to new heights this year.
