South Central guard Westin Neilson joined a special club on Tuesday night and did so as just a junior, as he surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone in the Cougars’ game against Windsor/Stew-Stras. It was a tough, physical game and the Hatchets held Neilson at bay until the fourth quarter when Neilson got the ball with about six minutes to go in the game and hit a three-pointer from the left wing to hit 10 points in the game and hit right on the 1,000 point mark. With the Cougars set to go on the road on Friday against Dieterich, Neilson was happy to get the achievement at home.
As the game went on, the crowd was right with Neilson with excitement building for each point as they cheered or sighed with each make and miss or uncalled physical contact. And Neilson says the support behind him was such a big thing for him.
Neilson hit one more three-pointer after the achievement making shot to finish the game with 13 points to stand at 1,003 career points with the remainder of this season and next to continue to add on to his career total.
