Six Vandals Wrestlers Ranked in Top 10, Teams Sits at #3 in Latest IWCOA Rankings

This week’s Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA) rankings have six Vandals ranked in the top 10 of their respective weight classes while another five are Honorable Mention. As a team, the Vandals dropped one spot this week from #2 down to #3 in the Class 1A Rankings following competition at the Abe’s Rumble. The Vandals took 3rd at the tournament going 8-1 with their only loss coming to Lena-Winslow, 37-30 in the semifinals. Lena-Winslow lost in the Championship match, but their Abe’s Rumble second place finish and their semifinal win over the Vandals pushed them from #5 up to #2 to sit right above the Vandals.

Individually, the Vandals have two wrestlers currently ranked #1 with Preston Waughtel at 126lbs and Dillon Hinton at 157lbs both in the top spot at #1. Max Philpot at 132lbs is ranked #2 while Eli Mabry at 144lbs sits at #5, Dade Kleinik at 150lbs is at #10 and Ross Miller at 190lbs sits at #6 for the Vandals in the top 10 of the rankings. Five more Vandals are listed at Honorable Mention including Aiden Evans at 120lbs, Brody Matthews at 138lbs, Keagan Turner at 150lbs, Cole Yarbrough at 165lbs and Dominic Swyers at 285lbs. The Vandals have a big tournament coming up next weekend as they will compete at the Princeton Invitational Tournament on January 9 and 10.
