Altamont came out on top from a see-saw battle on Friday evening, beating New Athens 68-62 in the quarterfinals of the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament. The Indians were outscored 19-13 in the first quarter but flipped the momentum in the second quarter, going on a 20-8 run in the quarter which included nine points from Cooper McManaway. That run would give Altamont a 33-27 lead at halftime. New Athens cut down the Indians lead in the third quarter though, outscoring Altamont 19-14 to scale the Indians lead down to just one point, 47-46. Zaine Miller hit for nine points and Kade Milleville racked up eight points in the fourth quarter as the pair led a 21-16 run that would push the Altamont lead out to six points as they closed out the 68-62 win. The Indians move to 6-3 on the season and will advance to the tournament’s first semifinal game where they will take on top-seed Waltonville (10-1 on the season) today at 4:30pm with the winner advancing to Monday’s Championship game.
