Vandalia girls basketball is going to have to wait for their first South Central Conference win of the season after falling at home to Carlinville, 69-47, on Thursday night. Both teams got their scoring going quickly in the first quarter as the Lady Vandals were able to grab a slim 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter with Ollie Whitehead putting up eight of Vandalia’s points in the quarter. The Cavaliers would go on a 21-12 run in the second quarter to take the lead at halftime, 36-29. Vandalia was outscored 19-9 through the third quarter, trailing 55-38 before a buzzer beating three-pointer from Bella Walk to cut it to 55-41 heading into the fourth quarter. The Lady Vandals were held to just a single field goal and four free throws in the final eight minutes as they were handed the 69-47 loss. Vandalia is now 2-6 on the season and 0-2 in the SCC. They will have another SCC matchup on Monday but will head on the road for the game as they play at North Mac.
