Vandalia hit the opening basket of the game and would hold the lead for that lead, fending off Macon Meridian for a 74-64 win in their home opener on Saturday night. The Vandals took an early 7-2 lead and held that same margin at the end of the quarter, leading 16-11. Vandalia continued spreading the ball around the floor offensively, with five players scoring in the second quarter, as they just outscored the Hawks 14-12 and kept a 30-23 advantage at halftime. The Vandals continued to battle in the third quarter, pulling their lead out to eight and ten points at times. Meridian kept cutting back into the lead but Vandalia stayed on top, up 50-44 to start the fourth quarter. The lead would grow to 12 points before Meridian cut it down two eight before the Vandals made four of six free throws in the closing minute and a half to close out the 74-64 win. Vandalia gets to .500 early in the season at 2-2 and will have a busy week coming up with three games, but will stay home for all of them as they host South Central on Tuesday, begin South Central Conference play on Friday against North Mac and then wrap up the week against Carlyle on Saturday.
