Vandals Hold off Comets for Senior Night Win


The Vandalia Lady Vandals led by as much as 15 in the third quarter, and were able to hold off a late surge as they defeated their rival Greenville Lady Comets 57 to 43 Thursday Night. Before the game, the Lady Vandals honored seniors Faith DuPlayee, Madison Lupton, and Livi Wehrle. The two teams traded baskets, but Vandalia would pull away late in the first quarter to take a 21-12 lead, with 13 of those points coming from Bella Walk. Shots would be hard to come by in the second quarter, and Greenville took advantage, outscoring the Lady Vandals 10-3, but Vandalia still led 24-22 at half. Greenville would come out and take an early lead in the third quarter, but the Lady Vandals would rebound, and ultimately go on a 14-9 run to enter the fourth quarter with a 38-31 lead. Vandalia would pull away for good in the fourth quarter, outscoring Greenville 18-12 to come away with the 57 to 43 win. Vandalia improves to 16-12 on the season, and 3-5 in the SCC. The Lady Vandals will wrap up the regular season on Friday when they travel to Staunton.
