Vandalia baseball got a South Central Conference win over Greenville, 14-10, in the second straight high scoring game for the Vandals. A 5-run first inning would get things started for Vandalia as three consecutive singles from Kale Konrad, Andrew Kelly and Carson Lotz loaded the bases up and Aydan Jones drew a walk to bring the games first run across the plate and give Vandalia a 1-0 lead. A single from Kohner Depew would bring in Kelly and Lotz as the Vandal lead was extended to 3-0. With one out in the inning, Chase Cearlock singled and brought Jones and Depew for a 5-0 Vandalia lead. Greenville would be held scoreless in the top of the second and Vandalia again got to work quickly. After a leadoff hit by pitch, Kelly hit a RBI double and Depew had his second RBI single of the game for a 7-0 Vandalia lead. A fielder’s choice allowed Lotz to score and a bases loaded walk drawn by Qwentyn Stombaugh brought in two more runs to extend the lead to 9-0 and courtesy runner Adam Buscher scored on a wild pitch for a 10-0 Vandals lead. Greenville got four runs back in the top of the third and cut the Vandalia lead to 10-4 but a RBI groundout by Jones put the Vandals back up by seven runs, 11-4 after three innings of play. A 4-run top of the fourth for the Comets cut the lead to 11-9, but the Vandals had an answer as a triple from Konrad drove in a pair of runs and a fielder’s choice from Kelly scored a third run in the inning as Vandalia pushed their lead back out to five runs, 14-9. Greenville was able to tack on one run in the top of the fifth, but the Vandals were able to close things out for a 14-10 win. Vandalia moves to 10-13 on the season and to 3-4 in conference play.
