Mulberry Grove softball used some late offense to pick up a 6-3 win over Nokomis on Thursday. The Lady Aces would trail 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third inning before tying things up at 1-1 on an RBI ground out by Taylor Stone scored Jenni Mezo. That score would hold until Mulberry Grove broke the tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth as a RBI single from Lily Johnson scored Mezo and Stone scored on a passed ball to put the Aces up 3-1. Nokomis cut the Mulberry Grove lead to 3-2 in the top of the sixth, but the Aces had another strong inning in the bottom of the sixth. Lyla Mollett led the inning off with a walk and Mezo reached base on an error before Micah Greenwood also reached base on an error which allowed Mollett to score and push the aces lead to 4-2. A sacrifice from Stone scored Mezo and a double from Lily Johnson brought in Greenwood for another pair of runs that pushed the Aces lead to 6-2. Nokomis was able to put one more run on the board in the top of the seventh on a home run, but Mulberry Grove held Nokomis to finish out the 6-3 win. The Aces improve to 11-7 on the season and will be back in action on Monday at Okawville.
