Bombers beat Vandals in a game with 28 total runs, 25 total walks

It wasn’t the prettiest game, but for the Brownstown-St. Elmo Bombers it was a victory as they defeated the Vandals, 17 to 11, at Vandalia Mutual Field on Thursday in a 2 1/2 hour long affair.

Vandals pitchers struggled with the strike zone all day as they issued a total of 19 walks and hit 2 batters.  BSE jumped out of the gate with 4 runs in the first inning that got a big boost with a 2 run hit by Corey Hoopingarner, and they built their lead to 7 to 0 going into the bottom of the 4th inning.  The Vandals would but that to a 2 run deficit as they scored 5 runs, including a 3 run double by Andrew Kelly.  But, the Bombers would keep adding to the scoring, capping it off with a big 7 run 6th inning that put it out of reach.  Adam Atwood wasn’t at his best on the mound for the Bombers, but battled into the 6th inning to get the win.  With the win, the Bombers are now 6-10-1 on the season.  The Vandals fall to 9-13.
