South Central Grabs 2-1 Win at Effingham

South Central baseball picked up a nice win on Wednesday, beating 3A school Effingham, 2-1. All of the game’s scoring would come early in the game. Effingham opened the scoring with a run in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Cougars, 1-0. South Central would answer in the top of the third with their first run. Brody Markley walked and Zane Montes singled to put runners at the corners. A sacrifice from Evan Hoover would score Markley from third and South Central tied the game up at 1-1. After holding the Hearts scoreless in the bottom of the second, South Central would put up another run in the third. With runners at first and second, they would steal to advance to second and third and then the courtesy runner Luke Shumate would score on an error by the Effingham catcher and South Central took the 2-1 lead. With a pair of runners still on base, a strikeout would end the inning and the Cougars scoring threat.
