Altamont senior Peyton Osteen is quite a busy student-athlete, competing in four Varsity sports for Altamont High School, playing club volleyball for Rapid Fire and academically ranking in the top 10% of high school seniors in the state as an Illinois State Scholar. Osteen, who is a successful athlete on the volleyball and basketball courts as well as the softball field and at the track, will continue her athletic career at the collegiate level choosing to play volleyball at Lincoln Trail College beginning this fall. As she was deciding how to move forward to the next step of her academic and athletic career, Osteen says there were a lot of things that drew her to Lincoln Trail.
For many athletes as they move on to the collegiate level, it means not being around the same family, classmate and surroundings each day and adjusting to new teammates, coaches and more. For Osteen though, it means a little different change in that she will not be sharing the court with her sister Kylie who, being just a year younger, has been right there with her on the court during junior high and for the last three years of high school.
As Osteen leaves ACHS, she has a long list of accomplishments achieved with more sure to come before the year is up. On the volleyball court, she reached 1,001 career assists for the Lady Indians and was named to the 2022 National Trail Conference All-Conference Second Team and 2023 National Trail Conference All-Conference Second Team, was named to the 2023 Pana Tournament All-Tournament Team, was honored multiple times I70Sports.com Athlete of the Week and was also on the 2022-2023 I70Sports.com Best Of Volleyball All Area Volleyball Team. In basketball, she was named to the 2022 Mattoon Holiday Tournament All-Tournament Team and in softball she was a member of the 2023 NTC All-Conference Second Team and the 2022-2023 I70Sports.com Best Of Softball All Area Volleyball Team as well as being named as one of the 2022-2023 I70Sports.com Best Of “Female Standout Athletes of the Year” honorees.
