>>Tigers Take ASU’s Torkelson First In MLB Draft

(Secaucus, NJ)  —  Spencer Torkelson is going to the Tigers with the first pick in the MLB Draft.  Detroit took the Arizona State slugger number-one.   The draft ends with rounds two through five today.  Meanwhile, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred tells ESPN he’s 100-percent certain there will be a 2020 season.

>>NFL, Union Discussing Shorter Preseason

(New York, NY)  —  There could be a shorter preseason in the NFL this year.  NFL.com reports the league and union are discussing reducing the number of exhibition games from four to two leading into the regular season.  The new collective bargaining agreement features a three-game preseason starting in 2021.

>>Truex Jr. Wins At Martinsville

(Ridgeway, VA)  —  Martin Truex Jr. is celebrating his first Cup win of the season.  He beat out the Penske Team trio of Ryan Blaney, Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano under the lights at Martinsville Speedway.  African-American Bubba Wallace finished 11th.  His car featured a Black Lives Matter theme.

>>NASCAR Bans Confederate Flag

(Undated)  —  NASCAR is granting driver Bubba Wallace’s wish.  Confederate flags are now banned from all events and properties, just days after the circuit’s first full-time black driver made a plea on CNN.  NASCAR had asked fans to stop bringing the flags to events back in 2015, but they were still a common sight.

>>U.S. Soccer Rescinds Rule Banning Kneeling During Anthem

(Chicago, IL)  —  U.S. Soccer is repealing a 2017 rule that requires players to stand for the national anthem.  The board of directors voted during a conference call to rescind the policy.  The rule was implemented after Megan Rapinoe [[ rah-PEE-noh ]] kneeled in support of NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick.

>>PGA Tour To Honor George Floyd Today

(Fort Worth, TX)  —  The PGA Tour returns today and will honor George Floyd at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas.  The 8:46 a.m. tee time will be left open for a moment of silence for each of the tourney’s four rounds.  The 8:46 represents how long Floyd was pinned to the ground before his death.
