(St. Louis, MO) — The Blues’ Jay Bouwmeester is nominated for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The award is given annually to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to ice hockey. The Masterton Trophy is frequently awarded to players who have overcome or battled career-threatening injuries or life-threatening illnesses. Bouwmeester hasn’t played since suffering a cardiac episode during the February 11th game against the Anaheim Ducks. He underwent surgery to install an implantable cardioverter defibrillator that will restore his heart’s normal rhythm in case of a similar future incident.
