(Tokyo) — A new date has been set for the Tokyo Olympics that were postponed over the coronavirus. An International Olympic Committee spokesman says the Summer Games will start on July 23rd, 2021. The closing ceremony is scheduled for August 8th. It’s the first postponement of the games since the modern Olympics began in the 19th century.
>>ABC/ESPN Moving Up Release Of Bulls Documentary
(Undated) — ABC and ESPN is moving up the release of the ten-part documentary about Michael Jordan and the 90’s Bulls. The New York Post reports the doc titled “The Last Dance” will begin airing April 19th. The miniseries was originally was set to be released in June before the coronavirus pandemic put the sports world on hold. The documentary follows the Bulls’ final championship season in 1997 and 1998.
>>NCAA Council Approves Extra Eligibility For Spring Sport Athletes
(Indianapolis, IN) — The NCAA Division One Council is granting an extra year of eligibility to student-athletes in spring sports whose seasons were cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic. Those include baseball, softball, outdoor track and field, and golf. It applies to all spring athletes, not just seniors, but does not include winter sports such as basketball and hockey.
>>NBA Hosting 2K Tournament
(Undated) — The NBA will host an NBA 2K video game tournament on Friday that will be broadcast on ESPN. Donovan Mitchell and DeMarcus Cousins are confirmed to be taking part of the 16-player tournament. The NBA will remain out of action through at least of the end of April due to the coronavirus pandemic.
>>Construction Continues At SoFi Stadium After Positive Test
(Inglewood, CA) — Construction continues at SoFi Stadium despite a positive coronavirus test for a least one stadium worker. A worker is being presumed positive. Around three-thousand people are still working at the new stadium in Inglewood, which is scheduled to open in July. Both the Rams and Chargers will call it home.
