The IHSA baseball postseason continues today with semifinal games as both Altamont and Vandalia begin their postseason play and BSE and South Central both play their second games of the postseason.
In Class 2A, the Vandals begin play in their own regional with semifinal action against St. Anthony at 2:00pm at I70 Media Field. Vandalia, the #6 seed, is 14-18 on the season and will take on the fourth-seeded Bulldogs for the first time since 2017 when they met in regular season play. The winner of today’s semifinal will advance to the Championship game on Saturday at 1:00pm.
In Class 1A, Altamont also begins postseason play in their own regional semifinal. The second-seeded Indians will take on Cumberland after the Pirates beat Lawrenceville 12-1 in quarterfinal action on Monday. First pitch between the Indians and Pirates will be at 4:30pm and the winner will move into the Championship game on Saturday at 11:00am against the winner of the semifinal between WSS and Red Hill.
In the North Clay 1A Regional, #8 seed South Central will take on top seed and host North Clay at 4:00pm today in Louisville in the first semifinal. This will be the third meeting of the season between the two teams with South Central falling to the Cardinals in both matchups on April 18 and April 21. The winner will move to the Championship game at 11:00am on Saturday.
In the Morrisonville 1A Regional, Brownstown-St. Elmo will take on the host Mohawks, the #2 seed, in the first semifinal at 4:30pm. BSE was an 18-3 winner over Ramsey to get to the semifinals and today’s winner will move into the Championship game on Saturday at 11:00am against the winner of Nokomis ad Greenfield.
