South Central Claims 5th Straight Regional Championship With Shutout Win Over Hutsonville/Palestine


The South Central Lady Cougars claimed their 5th straight Regional Championship Friday afternoon, knocking off the Hutsonville/Palestine Lady Tigers. The Lady Cougars wasted no time getting on the board, when three consecutive singles from Perci Reid, Annie Ruholl, and Kinlee Thompson gave South Central a 1-0 lead. Two batters later, Emmie Ruholl reached on an error, allowing Annie Ruholl to score, extending the lead to 2-0. The Lady Cougars added on in the top of the second inning, when Annie Ruholl ripped a two-out 2-RBI single, allowing Zoey Feldhake and Reid to score, pushing the lead to 4-0. An Emily Rose RBI single in the top of the third inning extended the lead to 5-0, before South Central broke the game open in the top of the fourth when Reid and Thompson scored on a pair of errors, making the score 7-0. The Lady Tigers had their best scoring opportunity in the bottom of the fifth inning, loading the bases with two outs, but Lauren Johnson was able to get out of the jam unscathed, keeping the score 7-0. The Lady Cougars tacked on three runs in the top of the sixth inning with a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double to extend the lead to 10-0, and Johnson was able to keep the Lady Tigers off the board, securing the 10-0 win. South Central is now 17-13 on the season. The Lady Cougars advanced to the Casey-Westfield Sectionals, where they will play the host Casey-Westfield in the Sectional Semifinals on Tuesday at 4:30.
