Vandalia baseball tied the game in the top of the seventh inning and then came up with three runs in the top of the 10th inning to get a 7-4 win over Morrisonville-Lincolnwood on Friday night. The Mohawks took a 2-0 first inning lead but the Vandals got both runs back in the top of the third inning on a two RBI single to right field by Chase Cearlock that scored Kohnor Depew ad Jack Lewis and tied the game at 2-2. Morrisonville responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to regain the lead 3-2 and added on one more in the bottom of the fourth inning to extend their lead to 4-2. Depew cut the Mohawk lead in half with a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning pulling the Vandals to within a run. 4-3. Vandalia was able to put two runners on in the top of the sixth but they were both stranded to end the half inning but the Vandals broke through again an inning later. In the top of the seventh, Depew singled to lead off the inning and advanced to third on a sacrifice by Lewis. Andrew Casey then grounded out to first to score Depew and pick up the RBI, tying the game at 4-4. The Mohawks loaded the bases up with no outs in the bottom of the seventh, but Vandalia got out of the jam with a line out and a double play to send the game to extra innings. Each team went down one, two, three in the eighth inning, but the Vandals got a leadoff single from Qwentyn Stombaugh in the top of the ninth inning. Stombaugh was stranded at third to end the half inning though after a foul bunt out and a pair of strikeouts. Morrisonville got a leadoff double in the bottom of the ninth, but Vandalia was able to get a groundout, a strikeout ad a pop out to send the game to the 10th inning. Casey was able to draw a leadoff walk to start the 10th and advanced to second base on a wild pitch before Cearlock bunted and reached base on an error allowing Casey to score and Cearlock ended up at second base with the Vandals taking the 5-4 lead. A sacrifice by Drew Jones moved Cearlock to third base and after a fly out for the second out of the inning, Aayden Carrol hit a 2-run home run to left field to extend the Vandals lead to 7-4. Stombaugh reached base for the vandals with a single, but a foul tip for the third out ended the top of the 10th inning. The Mohawks picked up two quick outs on a ground out and a strike out before an error allowed a baserunner, but the runner was stranded as Lewis struck out the next batter to close out the game and the 10-inning 7-4 win for the Vandals. Lewis got the win on the mound in relief pitching the final four innings allowing no runs on one hit and striking out three batters. The win wraps up the regular season for Vandalia who stands at 14-18 on the season. They host their own 2A Regional and will face St. Anthony at 2:00pm on Wednesday at I70 Media Field in the first semifinal game.
