Altamont Wraps Up Regular Season With Shutout Win Over Edwards Co.

Altamont baseball wrapped up the regular season with a hard fought shut out win over Edwards County, 2-0, at home on Friday. The Indians got on base early with Kade Milleville leading off the bottom of the first with a line drive single to centerfield and Carson Milleville followed with a line drive single to right field. Zaine Miler drew a walk to load the bases and sacrifice fly to center field by Brayden Elam allowed K. Milleville to tag up and score from third base for a 1-0 Altamont lead. After facing the minimum amount of Lions batters in the top of the second, Altamont came back to the plate and with one out, Blake Berg drew a walk and courtesy runner Will Reardon came in for the catcher, Berg. Reardon was able to advance to second on a passed ball and then a groundout by Reed Stuemke put Reardon at third. The first pitch of the next at bat would get away from the Edwards County catcher and Reardon came in to score and extend the Indians lead to 2-0 before a groundout ended the inning. Altamont threatened again in the bottom of the fourth inning with runners at first and second but a pop out ended that threat. The Indians put one base runner on in each of the next two innings but were unable to score again as they continued to hold the Lions scoreless and then sat down Edwards County one, two, three in the top of the seventh inning to close out the 2-0 win. Senior K. Milleville got the win one mound as he struck 11 batters in the game. With the win, Altamont finished the regular season at 22-9, going 9-3 in the month of May. They will now be off until they begin postseason play on Wednesday at their own Altamont 1A Regional, playing in the semifinals on Wednesday at 4:30pm against the winner of the quarterfinal game between Lawrenceville and Cumberland.
