South Central baseball suffered a 6-2 loss to Dieterich as they wrapped up the regular season at home on Friday evening. The Cougars fell behind 2-0 in the second inning and were unable to get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth inning. With two outs, Garret Shumate singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch before Aiden Hoover singled to shortstop and drove in Shumate as South Central cut the Maroons lead in half, 2-1. After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, Dieterich pushed their lead out to 5-1 with three runs in the top of the sixth inning and extended it to 6-1 with one more run in the top of the seventh inning. Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Ryker Dodson walked and Hudson Moore doubled to center field to score Dodson, cutting it to a 6-2 ball game. A ground out ended the late rally attempt though as the Cougars took the 6-2 loss. South Central ends the regular season at 8-21 and they will have one more game at home as they begin postseason play on Monday, hosting CHBC at 4:30pm in the quarterfinal game of the North Clay 1A Regional.
