SEB Beats Ramsey to Win EIC Softball Tournament; Full Tournament Recap

Top-seeded St. Elmo-Brownstown scored three unanswered runs after the first inning as Ramsey couldn’t push more than one run across the plate and the Lady Eagles beat the Lady Rams 3-1 in the title game of the Egyptian Illini Conference Softball Tournament on Saturday at Jaycee Park in Greenville.

Earlier in the day, #4 seed Martinville beat #5 Mulberry Grove, 10-2, in the play-in game to open the day. That put Martinsville in one semifinal game against #1 SEB. The Lady Eagles scored five first inning runs for a 5-1 lead at the end of the inning and held that lead the entire game, adding on two runs in the second inning and three more in the third inning to go up 10-1. Martinville got their offense going in the fourth with three runs and one more in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but SEB was able to hold off the BlueStreaks for the 10-6 win to advance to the Championship. In the other semifinal game, #3 CHBC led #2 Ramsey 2-1 at the end of the first inning, but the Lady rams tied the game at 2-2 in the second inning and then bust things open with an 8-run third inning as Ramsey led CHBC 10-2 at the end of the third inning and would hold that lead to close out the 10-2 win in five innings and advance to the Championship game against SEB. CHBC is now 4-17 on the season.

In the Championship game, Ramsey scored a run on an RBI single by Violet Williams in the first inning to go up 1-0. That lead held until the bottom of the third inning when SEB tied the game up as a run scored when Brooklyn Landrus reached base on an error. That 1-1 tie held until the fifth inning when it was SEB who broke up the tie with a runner scoring from third on a passed ball and another one coming in on a dropped third strike as the Lady Eagles led the Lady Rams 3-1 to end the fifth inning. Ramsey was able to put two runners in scoring position in the top of the sixth inning, but SEB held the Lady Rams scoreless and finished the 3-1 win to grab the Championship. SEB is now 11-14 on the season while Ramsey sits at 9-11.
