Area Jr. High Track Athletes Earn More Hardware, Altamont 7th Grade Boys Grab Team Runner-Up Honors on Second Day of IESA 2A State Meet


The second and final day of the IESA 2A State Track Meet in East Peoria brought with it even more hardware secured by area junior high track athletes. Altamont’s 7th Grade Boys 4×400 relay took 2nd place as the day’s highest finisher from the area while Altamont’s Easton Caraway took 3rd place in the 7th Grade Boys 200m Dash and BSE’s 7th Grade Girls 4×400 relay took 3rd place in the event and taking 4th place honors was Altamont’s Hayden Veteto in the 8th Grade Pole Vault. Two individuals and two relays nabbed fifth place finishes including Altamont’s Gentry Sefton in the 7th Grade Boys Pole Vault, Jackson Neu in the 8th Grade Boys Pole Vault and their 8th Grade Boys 4×100 relay and the BSE Boys 7th Grade 4×200 relay. Altamont’s Cali Ruffner earned two 6th place finishes, tying for the 7th grade Girls High Jump and getting 6th in the 200m Dash. Wrapping up the area medalists were 7th place finishers CHBC’s Colton Ondes in the 7th Grade Boys Pole Vault and South Central’s Teagan Cowger in the 7th Grade Girls Shot Put while Altamont’s Nora Teasley grabbed 8th place in the 8th Grade Girls Discus.

In the team standings, Altamont 7th Grade Boys made the podium as a team finishing with 39 points for 2nd place, just one point behind Team Champion Normal Metcalf with 40 points while two other teams finished in the Top 10 as the Altamont 8th Grade Boys Team finished in 7th Place and the Altamont 7th Grade Girls Team finished in 8th place.
