Several Area Jr. High Track Athletes Earn Hardware on Day One of IESA 2A State Track Meet


The first day of the IESA 2A State Track Meet is in the books and area athletes have earned 12 medal finishes to the point. For 7th grade girls, Altamont’s Ria Pierce was on the medal stand twice for the day as she is the 100m Hurdle State Champion running the Finals in a time of 16.41 seconds and also took 7th place in the Long Jump. Altamont’s Emerson Kuenstler took 6th place in the Long Jump and BSE’s Jenna Wilhour took 7th place in the 10om Hurdles with a time of 17.83 seconds. For 7th grade boys, Altamont’s Easton Caraway hit the medal stand twice with a second place finish in the Long Jump with a jump of 18’ 1.75” and took 5th place in the 100m Dash with a time of 12.62 seconds. Altamont’s Griffin Kroening took 7th place in the 400m Dash and the Sprint Medley Relay team took 2nd place and BSE’s Gunner Meinhart took 4th place in the 110m Hurdles. For 8th Grade girls, Altamont’s Payton Ort took second place in the Pole Vault and teammate Kali Merritt took 5th place in the Pole Vault. For 8th grade boys, South Central’s Jordan Smith is a two-time medalist for the meet as he is the Long Jump State Champion with a best jump of 18’ 10.75” and took 5th place in the High Jump and Altamont’s Preston Kroening took 5th place in the 110 Hurdles. The state meet continues on Saturday with Finals of the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 relay events, the 200m Dash and the 800m Run as well as the remaining field events competition.
