Vandalia Falls to OPS in Regular Season Finale


Vandalia softball wrapped up regular season play on Thursday, suffering a 19-9 loss to Odin-Patoka-Sandoval on the road. The Lady Vandals went up 1-0 in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Mady McCall but OPS scored four first inning runs for a 4-1 lead. The Eagles then bust the game open with 10 runs in the bottom of the second inning to lead the Lady Vandals 14-1. Vandalia got two of the runs back as McCall picked up her second RBI single of the game and Arian Dunaway had an RBI bunt single to bring in another run and Vandalia cut the OPS led down 14-3. OPS kept their scoring going with two more runs in the bottom of the third inning, pushing their lead back out to 13 runs, leading 16-3. Vandalia had their best offensive inning in the fourth with RBI singles from Elaina Hagy and Liah Hoyle, a two RBI single by Kennidee Yarbrough and two more runs scored on OPS errors as they closed the OPS lead down to 16-9. The Lady Vandals were able to hold the Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, but OPS did the same to Vandalia in the top of the fifth inning. OPS then pushed three more runs across the plate to go up 19-9 and trigger the run rule. Vandalia finishes regular season play at 5-18 and will begin postseason play on Monday. Despite hosting their own Regional, the Lady Vandals have to go on the road to start the postseason, playing at Staunton on Monday in a quarterfinal matchup.
