Altamont Rides Quick Offensive Start to Rout of Okaw Valley

Altamont softball scored five first inning runs, including four off an inside the park home run by Kennedi Schultz, and rode that quick start to a 13-1 win at Okaw Valley on Thursday. A groundout by Ella Nelson opened the game’s scoring as it scored Avery Fleeharty and after the Lady Indians loaded the bases up, Schultz drove the ball to centerfield to clear the bases and came around to score herself for an inside the park home run as Altamont went up 5-0. They tacked on to that lead in the second inning, scoring on an Okaw Valley error and on a groundout before a Laila Hankins RBI single capped off the offensive run to put the Lady Indians in front 8-0 at the end of the second inning. Altamont’s scoring was halted for the next three innings while Okaw Valley scored their lone run in the fourth inning to make it an 8-1 ball game. Altamont immediately kicked their offense back into gear in the top of the sixth inning with a leadoff single by Alyssa Ruholl and a walk drawn by Becca Swank to put runners at the corners. Ella Nelson hit a hard ground ball to third and reached base on error, allowing Ruholl to score. Swank came in on a passed ball and a triple by Hankins scored Nelson and Jocelyn Pearcy who had reach base on a walk before Hankins scored on a sacrifice fly to put Altamont up 13-1. The Lady Indians sat Okaw Valley down one, two, three in the bottom of the sixth inning and finished off the 13-1 win. Altamont wraps up the regular season at 9-17 and will host their own Regional, taking on Central A&M at 6:00pm on Tuesday in the semifinals of the Regional.
