The Vandalia Vandals put the go-ahead run on base in the top of the seventh inning, but could not come through, falling to the Odin/Patoka/Sandoval Eagles 6-5 on Thursday. Drew Jones singled to score Andrew Casey in the top of the first inning to give the Vandals a 1-0 lead, but OPS immediately got that run back in the top half of the inning to tie the game at 1. That score held until the top of the third inning when Chase Cearlock singled to score Jack Lewis, giving Vandalia a 2-1 lead. The Eagles responded with a 5-run third inning, taking a commanding 6-2 lead. The Vandals attempted a late seventh-inning rally when Qwentyn Stombaugh led off with a single, and came around to score on a Kohnor Depew triple, cutting the deficit in half, 6-3. Back-to-back singles from Lewis and Casey made it a 2-run game. Two batters later, Jones came through with a single to score Lewis, making the score 6-5 with the go-ahead run on base, but the Vandals were unable to extend the game, falling to OPS 6-5. The loss drops Vandalia to 13-16 on the season. The Vandals will have a day off on Friday, before being back home on Saturday to take on Flora.
