BSE Holds Off Late Rally for Win Over South Central

The South Central Cougars had the winning run on base, but couldn’t bring it across, falling to the Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers 5-4 on Tuesday. South Central broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning when Sebastian Kruger reached on an error, allowing Garrett Shumate to score, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead. An RBI double from Ryker Dodson in the bottom of the third inning extended the South Central lead to 2-0. That score held until the top of the sixth inning, before a single from Jayce Gillespie, and a double from Zayden Gillespie put two on for Nolan Wilhour. Wilhour then reached on an error allowing both runners to score, tying the game at 2. The Bombers loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning when Jayce Gillespie singled to give BSE a 3-2 lead. A groundout from Logan Lach extended the Bombers lead to 4-2, before a Calvin Voelker sacrifice fly capped off a 3-run frame for BSE, sending them to the bottom of the seventh with a 5-2 lead. South Central did not go away quietly, with Luke Shumate leading off with a walk, and Hudson Moore ripped a 2-run home run to cut the deficit to 5-4. Ryker Dodson reached on an error, and Garrett Shumate walked, putting the winning run on base, but BSE induced a double play, to secure the Bombers with the 5-4 win. The win improves BSE to 8-9 on the season. The Bombers will be on the road Thursday to take on Central A&M. The loss drops South Central to 7-17 on the season. The Cougars will be back home on Wednesday to take on Cumberland.
