South Central Gets Walk Off Win Over Neoga in NTC Action

A week after South Central suffered a tough loss to Neoga in the National Trail Conference Tournament in Effingham, the Lady Cougars exacted some revenge, this time on their home field, getting a 4-3 walk off win over the Lady Indians on Tuesday. After a quiet first two innings by South Central, they were able to take advantage of a Neoga error to put leadoff batter Amelia Montes on base and she scored on another Neoga error after a single by Zoey Feldhake and Feldhake was able to advance all the way to third base. A line drive single by Perci Reid brought Feldhake in to score and South Central led 2-0 at the end of the third inning. Things quieted down until the top of the sixth inning when Neoga was able to take advantage of a South Central error to score their first run of the game and cut the Lady Cougars lead to 2-1. That one-run lead was quickly pushed back to a pair of runs when Lauren Johnson hit a solo home run to left field to lead off the bottom of the sixth for a 3-1 South Central lead. Neoga had an answer for the Cougars though as a two-run home run by the Lady Indians tied the game up at 3-3. With the game down to the bottom of the seventh and South Central needing just a run to get the, the Lady Cougars did just that. Reid reached base on an error to lead off the inning and Annie Ruholl singled to put two runners on. Neoga opted to intentionally walk Emmie Ruholl and load the bases but that would backfire as Johnson singled to left field to score Reid and get South Central the 4-3 win. The Lady Cougars are now 13-11 on the season and have won three of their last four games. They will be right back in action at home against Pinckneyville today at 4:30pm.
