South Central softball racked up 11 hits and scored early to grab a lead which held through the seventh inning for a 5-2 win at Christ Our Rock Lutheran on Monday. A leadoff walk by Perci Reid to start the game followed by back-to-back singles by Annie Ruholl and Emmie Ruholl to take a 1-0 lead and then Lauren Johnson tripled that lead to 3-0 with a double to score both Ruholls. Christ Our Rock was able to get just one run back in the bottom of the first cutting the Lady Cougars lead down to 3-1. South Central was able to load the bases in the top of the second inning with two outs, but a ground out ended that scoring threat to keep it at a 3-1 ballgame. Despite hitting in every inning, South Central stayed scoreless for two more innings unto breaking through again in the top of the fifth inning. Johnson led the inning off with another double and Kinlee Thompson followed her with a single and Maddie Peddicord was hit by a pitch to load the bases up with no outs. A fielders choice out at home caught Johnson on a grounder by Amelia Montes but the next batter, Emily Rose, singled home Thompson and Peddicord scored when Addy Ruholl grounded into a fielder’s choice as South Central extended their lead to 5-1. Christ Our Rock again answered but with only one run, to cut the Lady Cougars lead to 5-2. That would be it for the game’s scoring as the sixth and seventh innings went by scoreless and South Central finished the 5-2 win. The Lady Cougars are 12-11 on the season and will face Neoga for their regular season National Trail Conference matchup as the Lady Cougars look to get some revenge on the Indians after Neoga beat them 3-0 in the NTC Tournament last week.
