CHBC Rides 5-run First Inning to Win Over Meridian

The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats scored 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back, coming away with a 12-6 win over the Meridian Hawks. The Hawks took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Bobcats wasted no time taking the lead when Connor Vaughn ripped a 2 RBI single, giving CHBC a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Isaac Miller singled to score Kale Hardimon, extending the Bobcats lead to 3-1. A dropped third strike and a passed ball allowed Isaac Wells to score, before Miller scored on a passed ball to cap off the 5-run first inning, giving CHBC a 5-1 lead. An RBI single from Vaughn extended the Bobcats lead to 6-1, before Meridian added two runs in the top of the third to cut the lead to 6-3. Ben Askins and Cayden Ondes smoked a pair of RBI doubles, giving CHBC a 9-3 lead. The Bobcats added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a pair of bases-loaded hit by pitches, and a bases-loaded walk to extend their lead to 12-3. The Hawks scored 1 run in the fifth and 2 in the seventh, but the CHBC lead was too much to overcome, securing their 12-6 win. The Bobcats are now 6-12 on the season.
