BSE Holds off Late CHBC Rally

Elementary school gym indoor with volleyball net. Team sport concept"n

The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers scored 5 runs in the bottom of the third inning, and held off a late rally, to come away with a 7-5 win over the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats. A pair of wild pitches allowed the Bombers to take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, before CHBC drew a bases-loaded walk and an RBI groundout to tie the game at 2. BSE took advantage of a walk and an error from the Bobcats, and got RBI singles from Calvin Voelker and Zayden Gillespie to take a 7-2 lead. That lead held until the top of the sixth inning, when CHBC got an RBI single from Daithyn Arnold and a pair of RBI groundouts to cut the deficit to 7-5. That would be the closest the Bobcats would get, as Jayce Gillespie would retire the side in order, securing BSE with the 7-5 win. The Bombers improve to 7-9 on the season. BSE will be on the road on Tuesday to take on South Central. The loss drops CHBC to 5-12 on the season. The Bobcats will be back home on Monday to take on Flora.
