The South Central Lady Cougars used a big 4-run third inning to come away with a 6-3 win over the Altamont Lady Indians in the Consolation Semifinals of the NTC Softball tournament on Thursday night. The Lady Indians broke the scoreless tie in the top of the second inning when Avery Fleeharty drew a bases-loaded walk, giving Altamont a 1-0 lead. That score held until the bottom of the third inning when Kinlee Thompson singled to score Annie Ruholl and Amelia Montes, giving the Lady Cougars a 2-1 lead, before a 2 RBI single from Emmie Ruholl extended the South Central lead to 4-1. The Lady Cougars added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning when Perci Reid reached on an error, allowing Emmi Ruholl and herself to score, making the lead 6-1. The Lady Indians chipped away at the deficit in the top of the sixth inning when Fleeharty drew a bases-loaded walk to make the score 6-2. A pair of Lady Cougars errors cut the deficit in half, but the Lady Indians were unable to get any closer, falling to the Lady Cougars 6-3. The win improves South Central to 11-10 on the season. The Lady Cougars will take on Dieterich at 4:15 today for the Consolation Championship of the NTC Tournament. The loss drops Altamont to 8-15 on the season. The Lady Indians will be back home on Monday to take on Hutsonville/Palestine.
