The South Central Cougars got a late lead, but couldn’t hang on, falling to the Newton Eagles 4-2 on Thursday. After four scoreless innings, the Cougars broke the tie in the top of the fifth inning on a 2 RBI single from Ryker Dodson, giving South Central a 2-0 lead. The Eagles broke the game open in the bottom of the fifth inning with a 4-run frame to give Newton a 4-2 lead. South Central would get the tying run to the plate with one out in the top of the seventh inning, but were unable to bring the run across, falling to the Eagles 4-2. The loss drops South Central to 6-15 on the season. The Cougars will be back on the road Today to take on Edwards County.
