Altamont softball put up three runs in the third inning and that proved to be all they needed as they picked up a 4-2 win over St. Anthony in National Trail Conference action on Thursday. Each team put one baserunner on the first with Cecilia Pearcy getting a single for the Lady Indians but the game stood scoreless after one inning of play and stayed that way through the second inning as each team went three up, three down in the frame. Altamont was able to break through in the top of the third inning though with a two-out rally jumpstarted by a pair of line drive singles by Avery Fleeharty and C. Pearcy that brough in the first run for a 1-0 Altamont lead. Ella Nelson then stepped to the plate and hit a fly ball single to right field to bring in Pearcy and then Sophia Long doubled to center field to score Nelson and the Lady Indians found themselves up 3-0 midway through the third. After hold the Bulldogs scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, Altamont for a leadoff double from Laila Hankins to start the fourth inning but St. Anthony got the Lady Indians to pop out and fly out over the next three at bats to strand Hankins on base. St. Anthony was able to score their first run in the bottom half of the inning cutting the Lady Indians lead to 3-1 but Altamont got the run back in the top of the fifth inning when a line drive single by Adilyn Schnarre scored Fleeharty to push the Altamont lead back to three runs, 4-1. St. Anthony further cut the lead down with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it 4-2. That held as the final score with neither team able to score in the seventh inning. With the win, Altamont moves to 7-13 on the season and they wrap up NTC play at 5-4. The Lady Indians get right back into action today as they host North Clay in the second play-in game of the NTC Tournament at 4:15pm.
