SEB Gets Dominant EIC Win Over Mulberry Grove

SEB softball put up eight runs in each of the second, third and fourth innings while Mulberry Grove couldn’t push any runs across the plate after the first inning leading to a 26-2 win for the Lady Eagles over the Lady Aces in four innings on Thursday night. SEB put up two quick runs in the top of the first inning as Macey Sapp hit a 2-RBI single to centerfield. Mulberry Grove answered in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run home run to left field by Allyse Blankenship to tie the game up at 2-2. From the top of the second inning on, it was all Lady Eagles as they tacked on eight runs in the second alternating singles and drawn walks to regain the lead and push it to 10-2. SEB continued to use small ball to put runners on base and bring them around to score as they again put up eight runs and took an 18-2 lead midway through the third inning. The strong Eagles offense continued into the top of the fourth inning as SEB tacked another eight runs on to their side of the scoreboard including three that scored on Sapp’s fourth and fifth RBIs of the game and one on the fourth RBI of the game by Brooklyn Landrus on the way to extending the lead to 26-2. Mulberry Grove was able to put runners aboard in the bottom of the fourth inning as Ava Knebel and Jazmyn Lindahl drew back-to-back walks with one out. C Mollett then bunted into a fielder’s choice to reach base as the Aces loaded the bases up. During the next at bat though, Knebel was picked off at third for the second out of the inning before a strikeout ended the Aces scoring threat and the ballgame with SEB closing out the 26-2 win. SEB improves to 7-11 on the season and finishes Egyptian Illini Conference play at 3-1. Mulberry Grove drops to 0-13 on the season and to 0-2 in the EIC. SEB will be back in action today as they travel to Beecher City to face CHBC in the first play-in game of the National Trail Conference Tournament at 4:15pm. Mulberry Grove will be on the road on Monday at Okawville.
