South Central Falls at Cumberland In NTC Contest


South Central struggles offense outside of two-run second inning in a 12-2 loss at Cumberland in National Trail Conference play on Thursday. After a scoreless first inning, the Lady Cougars came out strong in the second inning as Kinlee Thompson and Lauren Johnson singled to start the top half of the inning and Emmie Ruholl walked to load the bases. Perci Reid came through with a line drive single to centerfield to score Thompson for a 1-0 lead and two batters later, Emily Rose singled on a live drive as well to score Johnson as South Central went up 2-0. Cumberland quickly tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the second though with a pair of runs. South Central was held hitless from that point on as Cumberland went on to put up two runs in each of the third and fourth innings before pushing six runs across the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning to close the game out as South Central was handed the 12-2 loss. The Lady Cougars are now 10-9 on the season and are 5-3 in NTC play with one more regular conference game to play. South Central will return to action on Monday at 6:15pm when they face Neoga in the quarterfinals of the NTC Tournament at Evergreen Park in Effingham.
