Lady Vandals Drop SCC Contest at Pana

After rain moved their first game of the home and home series with Pana on Monday, the Lady Vandals hit the road on Tuesday and suffered a 7-3 loss to the Panthers. Pana was able to put up two runs in the first inning and three in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead before Vandalia was able to breakthrough with their first run. In the top of the fourth inning, Elaina Hagy singled to get on base and then scored all the way from first when Katy Sefton doubled to right field and Vandalia cut the Pana lead to 5-1. The Panthers responded in the bottom half of the inning with a pair of runs and pushed their lead to 7-1 but that would be it for their scoring. The Lady Vandals got back-to-back singles from Bella Walk and Hagy with one out in the top of the sixth inning. They advanced to second and third on a double steal and then a wild pitch allowed Walk to score and Hagy to move up to third as the Lady Vandals cut their deficit to 7-2. An inning later they were able to again cut the Pana lead down by a run as K. Sefton reached base on a leadoff single and Kennidee Yarbrough singled to left field to score Sefton to make it a 7-3 game. That proved to be it for the game’s scoring though as the Lady Vandals suffered the 7-3 loss. The Lady Vandals drop to 4-13 on the season and to 2-3 in SCC play. They will see the Panthers again today as Pana will visit Denny’s Field to make up for Monday’s postponed game as part of the home and home series between the teams.
