Despite collecting 7 hits as a team, the Vandalia Vandals’ offense was held to just one run on Friday, falling to the Litchfield Purple Panthers 2-1 in South Central Conference action. Litchfield got on the board with an RBI single in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. The Vandals got on the board in the bottom of the third inning when Kohnor Depew reached on a 2-out double, and would come around to score on a Jack Lewis sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1. That score would hold until the top of the sixth inning when the Purple Panthers took a 2-1 lead on an RBI single. The Vandals would have multiple chances to tie or take the lead in both the sixth and seventh innings, but were unable to get the tying run across, falling to Litchfield 2-1. The loss drops the Vandals to 10-9 on the season, and 1-4 in SCC play. Vandalia will be back home on Monday to take on Pana in a non-conference matchup.
