Our Spin and Spray Highlight of the Week for April 18 comes from the Vandalia High School baseball team’s 10-8 win over Shelbyville on Thursday.
Trailing 8-2 to begin the seventh inning, the Vandals alternated a pair of singles with a pair of outs to have two runners on with two outs. After a walk drawn loaded the bases, senior Jack Lewis doubled to center field to bring in three runs and pull Vandalia to within three runs, 8-5. Andrew Casey singled for another run followed by Drew Jones hitting a single to score a pair of runs to tie the game at 8-8 and then Vandalia scored on a wild pitch, taking the lead 9-8. A single by Adam Buscher extended the lead to 10-8 before the Vandals two-out rally was stopped by their final out. Vandalia then held Shelbyville to one baserunner on a walk in the bottom of the seventh to cap off the huge comeback win.
