The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats used a pair of 4-run innings, and held off a late rally to come away with a 12-6 victory over the Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers on Tuesday. The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Ben Askins led off with a double, and came around to score on a Clive Schlanser triple to give CHBC a 1-0 lead. That score would hold until the bottom of the third inning when Askins was hit by a pitch, before coming around to score on a single from Schlanser. Three batters later, Connor Vaughn reached on an error, allowing two runs to score, giving CHBC a 4-0 lead. The Bombers would chip away at the deficit in the top of the fourth inning when Logan Lach led off with a double, and would around to score when Calvin Voelker reached on an error to make the score 4-1. Three straight walks would allow Voelker to score, cutting the Bobcats in lead half 4-2. CHBC would begin to break the game open in the bottom of the fourth when 5 straight walks would give the Bobcats a 6-2 lead. Kale Hardimon would reach on an error to score Max Kircher, before a passed ball would allow Askins to score, making the CHBC lead 8-2. BSE would respond with a 4-run inning of their own, when Jayce Gillespie scored on a passed ball, and an RBI single from Nolan WIlhour, and a pair of bases loaded walks would cut the deficit to 8-6. The Bobcats added on to their lead in the bottom of the fifth when Askins would single to score Daithyn Arnold, making the score 9-6. Hardimon would rip a three-run homer to give the Bobcats a 12-6 lead, and Isaac Wells and Connor Vaughn would combine for two scoreless innings to give CHBC the 12-6 win. The win improves the Bobcats to 4-6 on the season. CHBC will be back in action on Saturday, taking on Red Hill and CHBC in a round robin. The loss drops the Bombers to 4-6 on the year. BSE will be on the road on Tuesday to take on Oblong.
