The Vandalia Vandals offense could only muster up one run and three hits on Friday, falling to the Gillespie Miners 8-1. After two scoreless innings, the Miners would score two runs on a double to take an early 2-0 lead. The Vandals would waste no time cutting into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning when Kohnor Depew led off with a single, and later came around to score on a passed ball to make the score 2-1. That score would hold until the top of the fifth inning when Gillespie would break the game open with a 3-run inning, before tacking on two in the sixth and 1 in the seventh to come away with the 8-1 win. The loss drops the Vandals to 7-5 on the season, and 0-1 in SCC play. Vandalia will be back at home on Saturday morning to take on Nokomis.
