South Central Moves to 3-1 in the NTC After Shutout Win Over Dieterich

After a conference loss to start the week, South Central softball has rebounded and won two National Trail Conference games in a row after they beat Dieterich 8-0 on Thursday to keep themselves sitting near the top of the conference standings. The Lady Cougars started their scoring with a run on an RBI single from Kinlee Thompson in the top of the first inning and doubled it to a 2-0 lead scoring on a Dieterich error in the top of the second inning. The third inning proved to the biggest scoring inning for South Central as Lauren Johnson hit an RBI double and Emmie Ruholl followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-0 in the top of the third inning. A Dieterich error on a bunt by Perci Reid brought in two more runs and South Central went up 6-0. The Lady Cougars were held scoreless in the fourth inning but added on to their lead in the fifth inning when a double from Zoey Feldhake pushed a run across the plate and Reid followed with an RBI groundout to score Feldhake and push the South Central lead to 8-0. Those two runs ended up being the last runs of the game as the sixth and seventh were scoreless innings for both teams and the Lady Cougars sealed the shutout win. They are now 7-3 on the season and 3-1 in the NTC. They will be on the road again today at Newton before being back at home on Saturday to face Breese Central at 10:00am.
