The Vandalia Vandals got out to an early lead and never looked back, coming away with a 6-2 win over the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats on Monday. The Vandals got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Kohnor Depew scored on a passed ball to take a 1-0 lead. Vandalia broke the game open in the bottom of the second inning when Adam Buscher doubled to score Ayden Carroll to make it a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Depew would smoke a homer to left field to add on, making it a 4-0 lead. The Vandals would continue to add on in the bottom of the third when a Chase Cearlock single would score Andrew Casey to make it a 5-0 lead. The Bobcats would get on the board in the top of the 4th inning when Isaac Wells hit a sacrifice fly to score Ben Askins, cutting the deficit to 5-1. That score would hold until the bottom of the 5th inning when Qwentyn Stombaugh scored on a fielder’s choice to give the Vandals a 6-1 lead. Kale Hardimon would score on a passed ball in the top of the 6th inning to make it a 6-2 game, but the Bobcats would not get any closer, falling to the Vandals 6-2. The win improves the Vandals to 6-3 on the season. The Vandals host Neoga today. CHBC falls to 2-4 on the year. The Bobcats will be on the road on Tuesday to take on Casey-Westfield.
