I70 Area Track and Field Athletes Off to Strong Starts, Currently Sit in Top 25 of 1A Event Rankings


Six individual boys, two boys relays, two individual girls and one girls relay have put themselves in the Top 25 for Class 1A event rankings after the first two and a half weeks of the outdoor track and field season. Two girls sit in the Top 10 in the Girls 1A rankings as Altamont freshman Baileigh Starnes finds herself ranked in the top 10 of three events including 4th in the 400m Dash, 10th in the 100m Dash and 10th in the 200m Dash and Vandalia senior Hannah Brown is second in the Shot Put. On the boys side, two athletes and two relays are in the Top 10 as Vandalia senior Kohnor Depew is 2nd in the 200m Dash and 8th in the 100m Dash and teammate junior Sam Bowers is 3rd in the 300m Hurdles and 5th in the 110m Hurdles. The Vandalia boys 4×800 relay is currently ranked 7th and the Vandalia boys 4×200 is currently ranked 9th.

GIRLS in the Top 25:

Baileigh Starnes (FR, Altamont) – 10th in 100m, 10th in 200m, 4th in 400m

Hannah Brown (SR, Vandalia) – 2nd in Shot Put, 13th in Discus

Altamont 4×100 Relay (Katie Tedrick, Keely Fleeharty, Quincy Niermann, Baileigh Starnes) – 19th

BOYS in the Top 25:

Kohnor Depew (SR, Vandalia)– 8th in 100m, 2nd in 200m

Hayden Bridges (JR, Altamont) – 17th in 200m, 25th in High Jump

Nic Jackson (JR, Vandalia) – 23rd in 800m

Sam Bowers (JR, Vandalia) – 5th in 110m Hurdles, 3rd in 300m Hurdles

Brock Wendling (SR, Altamont) – 12th in Shot Put, 23rd in Discus

Jayden Hubler-Rench (SR, Vandalia) – 20th in Long Jump

Vandalia 4×200 Relay (Sam Bowers, Jordan Colburn, Paddy McDowell, Jayden Hubler-Rench) – 9th

Vandalia 4×800 Relay (Cole Durbin, Matthew McDowell, Ryker Emerick, Nic Jackson) – 7th
