South Central got their offense going early and Vandalia struggled to overcome errors as the Lady Cougars beat the Lady Vandals 17-2 on Monday. Vandalia scored first on an RBI double from Bella Walk in the top of the first inning but that 1-0 lead was taken away in the bottom of the first as a three-run home run by Perci Reid put South Central up 3-1. An RBI single by Arian Dunaway pulled Vandalia to within a run as they trailed South Central 3-2. The Lady Cougars bust the game open in the bottom of the second inning as RBI singles from Kyndl Bolen and Ameila Montes pushed their lead out to 5-2. An error and a wild pitch extended the lead before a sacrifice fly from Emmie Ruholl brought another run in for an 8-2 lead with one out. Two more Vandalia errors brought in two more South Central runs as the Lady Cougars went up 10-2 to end the inning. Vandalia was held scoreless in the top of the third inning and South Central continued their steady offense with an RBI double from Thompson bringing in a run, a triple from Baylee Brown driving in a pair of runs and an RBI single from A Ruholl scoring one run as South central’s lead grew to 14-2 at the end of the third inning. Vandalia put the ball in play, but a lineout, ground out and fly out kept them scoreless in the top of the fourth inning and they continued to trail 14-2. Montes led the bottom of the fourth off for the Lady Cougars with a double and scored on an RBI double from Reid and then Thompson put the game away with a two-run home run to make it 17-2 and trigger the run rule for the South Central win. South Central improves to 4-2 on the season and they will have a big National Trail Conference matchup on Wednesday at St. Anthony. Vandalia falls to 0-5 on the season and will be back in action today as they host Flora.
